Local and offline work still runs on tight print and commission math. These tools cost production and splits so you quote and negotiate with confidence.

Do it in order

Recommended Workflow

  1. 1

    Cost materials and labor first

Substrate, ink, finishing and setup all add up before you reach margin.

  2. 2

    Add margin, not just markup

Decide the profit you need on the job, then price to it. Markup and margin are not the same.

  3. 3

    Model the split

For commissions, see take-home after the brokerage cut and fees before you negotiate.

  4. 4

    Quote with clear scope

Spell out what the price includes so change orders are paid for, not absorbed.

Metrics That Matter

Cost per square foot
The base unit for large-format pricing. Everything else builds on it.
Gross margin
Price minus production cost. Protect it against rush jobs and rework.
Commission split
The share you keep after the brokerage cut and fees.
Take-home per deal
The number that actually lands in your account after everything is deducted.
Avoid these

Common Mistakes

  • Quoting print jobs without pricing setup and finishing.
  • Confusing markup with margin and under-earning.
  • Negotiating a commission split without modeling take-home after fees.
  • Absorbing scope changes instead of billing them.
Questions

Category FAQs

Are these tools free?

Yes. Free with no sign up, and the optional AI guidance is free too.

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is added on top of cost. Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. A 50 percent markup is only a 33 percent margin, which is why the distinction matters.

Whats included in a large-format print quote?

Material or substrate, ink, finishing, setup and labor, plus your margin. Leaving out setup and finishing is the most common way to underquote.

How do commission splits affect take-home?

The brokerage cut and any fees come out before you get paid, so a headline commission can shrink a lot. The split tool shows the real take-home.

Can I hand the output straight to a client?

Use it as your internal costing, then present a clear scoped quote. It is a pricing aid, not a finished client document.
